Copyright & content guidelines for theme pages
When creating content for your Instagram theme page, it is important to respect copyright and follow best practices. Here are the key guidelines.
What you CAN do
- Use publicly available images of celebrities or public figures that have been shared widely online.
- Study and learn from top-performing theme pages — look at what works in terms of structure, formats, and posting strategies.
- Create your own content using tools like Canva (for graphics and carousels) and CapCut (for video editing).
- Use AI-generated images — tools like Midjourney, DALL-E, or Canva's AI image generator are great for creating unique, original visuals for your page.
- Use royalty-free stock images from platforms like Unsplash or Pexels.
What you should NOT do
- Do not take personal images of private individuals without permission.
- Do not copy content directly from other pages without adapting it. If you simply repost someone else's content without making it your own, Instagram may flag it.
- Do not use copyrighted music in your Reels without a proper license — use Instagram's built-in music library instead.
How to avoid copyright strikes
- Always adapt the content to make it look like your own. Add your own text overlays, change the layout, or combine multiple sources.
- Focus on Reels over Carousels when starting out — Reels get more reach and are easier to make original.
- If you get a strike, remove the flagged content immediately and adjust your approach going forward.
